David Hillebrandt and Peter Barry have, in a few short years, created the Diploma in Mountain Medicine. The energy and enthusiasm that has been invested in this project has been richly rewarded by the results.

Qualified UIAA guides are used to teach and examine the practical mountain skills in the Alps, Scotland and North Wales. The theory component is taught and examined by members of the medical faculty who have, between them, a broad range of mountaineering experience. Uniquely the faculty consists of doctors of all grades of seniority and is drawn from all sorts of different medical backgrounds. They are all united in their enthusiasm for the the outdoors and for the Diploma.

The diploma course is open to all qualified and registered doctors and to qualified, registered and suitably experienced paramedics and nurses.
Suitably experienced final year medical students can commence the course but have to be fully registered before the award of the diploma.
